The survey also captured how growers from our community build and expand their operations over time. The patterns reveal a clear progression from cautious beginnings to confident, technical cultivation.
Growing Mediums:
Soil remains the dominant medium amongst our community at 52.82% adoption, valued for its forgiving nature. But the data shows a clear sophistication curve: as Advanced growers pass the one-year mark, coco coir adoption jumps to 26.06%, nearly doubling its adoption rate compared to pure hydroponics at 14.08%. Soilless mediums like rockwool and peat account for 7.04%.
Among beginners with less than one year of experience, 68.18% rely heavily on soil. Coco adoption starts at 18.18% and then jumps to approximately 27% after year one, remaining consistently high for veteran growers. Hydroponics usage holds steady at 12-15% across all experience levels.
Canopy Expansion:
First-year growers are cautious – 40.91% start with a 1-3 plant setup. But confidence builds with experience: home growers with five or more years of experience settle into a 6-10 plant canopy (32.87% of them). By the five-year mark, only 16.78% remain at the 1-3 plant level – a clear sign that experienced growers invest in expanding their gardens as their skills sharpen.
Cultivars, Trends, and Cannabis Specific Nutrients for 2026
Product Loyalty:
Perhaps the strongest signal of brand confidence: 53.87% of growers from our community plan to dominate 2026 using the exact same Advanced Nutrients regimen they ran in 2025. These “Loyalists” prioritize consistency and proven results over experimentation. A smaller segment plans to tweak their 2025 regimen with one or two new products while keeping their core favorites in place.
